Our school is k-5 and many of our students come from low-income areas. We have adopted the Bank Street model and integrated it into the public school system. Bank Street is a philosophy which teaches self respect, respect for others, and cooperative learning which spans the entire community. Students are encouraged to question and think about different ways to deal with problems as well as learn to be a contributing member of their community. We learn that our community expands far beyond the walls of the school and that each individual is a member. Our students often come from environments where they are not given opportunities and resources to explore and use their own reasoning abilities. Our school gives them the experiences to learn and work to their full potential.
