These books will make a significant impact on my students as they will increase self-awareness in their lives. Not only this, but it will increase the awareness in the world and those around them. In second grade, students are learning how to handle their emotions while also seeing the differences and likenesses of those around them. These books will center around lessons that can scaffold critical thinking and deep discussions among students to increase self-awareness. I want my classroom to be an environment where students can ask hard questions, be pushed to think outside the box, and know they are loved and accepted regardless of gender, religion, race, and other backgrounds. These books will help me create this environment within my classroom and foster these discussions. They will also help me relate to students working through difficult situations with big emotions by relating back to books we have read. This will allow my students to cope and work through their emotions while considering any others involved if applicable. Having these books will be able to create this inclusive environment in my classroom.
