I want to provide a comfortable, safe-feeling atmosphere for my students. Part of that includes allowing them the privilege of choosing where and what they would like to sit on while learning. My students' favorite part of class has always been partner and independent work because I allow them to move about the classroom. Most of them decide to sit on the floor, some remain at the desks, and others move to the small group table. Their choices change day by day, but just having the flexibility to change things up excite them and keep them engaged. I would love to be able to provide more seating options for them.
I'm looking to add different styles of seating, as every child has different needs, which can change day by day. The wiggle stools would stay at my small group table and be available to any students needing to get their excess energy or nervousness out. For the same purpose, I have requested sensory bands for those students who have the uncontrollable urge to move their legs when sitting. The cushioned stools will be grouped at a table for any students who would like softer seating. I will also be incorporating a saucer chair for students to bring a clipboard and complete their work there. I appreciate the opportunity to be able to teach my students in an environment they look forward to learning in every day.
