  • Literary Pandemic Relief

    Funded Jan 23, 2022

Thank you for your generous donation! Thanks to your donation, we were able to add so many books to our reading collection. We were able to fill a whole cupboard of new books that we were able to pay for because of your donation.

The students have loved picking new books that they can use for mentor texts, buddy reading, and read aloud. We now have so many options of texts that we can use to talk about social-emotional health, classroom procedures, and classic children's books.

My students have really benefitted from how we have started using books to help teach social-emotional lessons. Being able to see illustrations and hear a story that they can relate to has helped them understand how to better regulate their emotional responses. It has been so cool to see how they are better able to understand the abstract concepts of feelings!

    Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Earl

  • Building Readers!

    Funded Dec 29, 2021

Thank you for your generous donation. Our class has been so grateful! We did not have very many books in our classroom library at the beginning of the year. Thanks to your donations, our book collection has grown significantly. We have used the books to introduce different social and emotional lessons. It is so much easier to teach a lesson about the social skill of making friends with a high-quality text instead of a conversation.

The students are able to relate to the characters in the texts that we read.

In our classroom, reading looks like a happy time where students can learn more about themselves and others. We talk about how books can be mirrors (when you relate to the characters/ what is happening in the story) or windows (when you get to see a new perspective through a character). This has been valuable for both me and my students!

There are students in my class who have had a hard time connecting with some of the students in our class. Having new and engaging books in the classroom has helped these students find something to relate to. They have really benefitted from the books that were bought because of your generous donation. As a class, we have loved sharing about the new books we read!

    Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Earl

I am a first year teacher and I am passionate about literacy! My dream is to have an inclusive classroom library that draws students in with books that they are excited to read. I believe that children will gravitate towards books that they can relate to and I have carefully selected a variety of books that represent all kinds of students. These books will also be used in creating meaningful literature circles, where students can learn, explore, and ask questions about real world problems in a safe, small group, environment!
