  • Become a Warrior in the Classroom

    Funded Oct 9, 2021

We are so excited about the impact the book "Way of the Warrior Kid" is making on our students. My students have committed to writing a reflection regarding their thoughts on the book. The reflection had to include the following. Describe the relationship between Mark and his mother. Describe the relationship between Mark and Uncle Jake. Describe the impact Uncle Jake had on Mark. Each student had to identify someone in their family that is a positive role model and describe how that positive role impacts their lives. The students are asking to read the sequel!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Marcellus

  • SEE OUR WORLD in the CLASSROOM

    Funded Nov 26, 2021

Our students are so grateful and excited everyday to use the map. We have learned about the different regions of North America, South America, Europe. We are currently working on the regions of Eastern Mediterranean.

Our students were so excited when they entered the classroom and saw the wall map. Most of my students parents are from foreign countries. So they immediately begin to review and look for their parents homelands.

We are currently working on the regions of Eastern Mediterranean. Which encompasses the political, economic, geographic and social impact of the physical features on the population in the regions of Eastern Mediterranean.”

  • Guitar Sharks

    Funded Sep 23, 2021

Our students have benefited immensely from the guitars you have donated. We have approximately 25 students in our Sellers MS Guitar Sharks club. The after school program is providing our students another avenue for expression. Our community and school district officials are very supportive of our guitar club and activities.

Upon seeing the guitars for the first day meeting the students were thoroughly surprised and excited.

Our students are currently working on a project that includes learning guitar chords and scales. Which will lead them into learning songs. They are preparing to perform for the school sometime in the Spring semester.”

    With gratitude,

The most significant impact of our Guitars for Students program I would say is the healing our students’ and families receive from their participation in our music program. Our student demographics is composed of students from low socio-economic backgrounds. Our music program reduces feelings of anxiety and stress for our students. It has helped our students’ regulate their emotions’, helped them to improve their concentration and their behaviors. Also our student (ESL) body consists of students in which English is their second language, therefore learning music has enhanced the way our students process language and speech. Learning to play musical instruments has improved the memory capabilities of our students, enhanced their hand-eye coordination, increased their study habits, and revealed the importance of teamwork. Learning to play a musical instrument has enhanced our students’ ability to process and problem solve. Improved their self-esteem, developed their confidence as they mastered playing a musical instrument. In conclusion we have noticed that learning to play an instrument produces several positive effects on our student’s bodies and brains. This engagement of learning to play the guitar activates the left and right brain and this activation of both hemispheres has maximized the learning in the classroom. Therefore, contributing to a healthy mindset for our students in the community. Help me give my students five acoustic guitars for student guitar club.
