Having diverse books in the classroom will help to build community unity and inclusivity. Diverse books help to create openings for discussions about what’s happening in current events. Exposure to diverse literature emphasizes similarities: Kids are Kids No Matter How Different Their Backgrounds and cultural identity. These books will be kept in the classroom library where students will be able to check out books weekly to read during independent time, free time, and reading groups. Students will get to complete book reports and projects about what they read, learned, and experienced.
