A Class Set for Everyone!

Funded Nov 28, 2023

Thank you so much for contributing to our project. Our class loved reading Look Both Ways. Students explored the themes of assumptions and stereotypes through the different characters and extends those questions to our own lives, examining the ways that we make misconceptions about others based on surface-level characteristics.

Throughout our novel study, students engaged in a variety of reading comprehension and analysis activities in class. One such activity that was particularly meaningful was "Iceberg character," where students picked a character and identified how the 10% of the character that we could see on the surface (including initial preconceptions), then the 90% sat below the surface, from past traumas to hidden dreams. For their final activity, students picked a character from the book and designed a tiny house of them, citing evidence to support inferences about the character's personality, hopes, and dreams.

We couldn't have done any of this without you!”

With gratitude,

Ms. Tan
