All the materials listed will aid students in our day-to-day class. I want students to be able to have basic, essential materials in order to be able to succeed in my class. While history can be seen as a dull subject, I want my students to be able to discover history through a creative lens. This is why I have included design materials for future engaging projects. Unfortunately, not every student has the luxury to afford everyday materials. For all the students going through hardships, I want to make sure that they don't worry about having a pencil. I have included the poem below because it allowed me to see the perspective of a potential student.
'Cause I Ain't Got a Pencil
I woke myself up
Because we ain't got an alarm clock
Dug in the dirty clothes basket,
Cause ain't nobody washed my uniform
Brushed my hair and teeth in the dark,
Cause the lights ain't on
Even got my baby sister ready,
Cause my mama wasn't home.
Got us both to school on time,
To eat us a good breakfast.
Then when I got to class the teacher fussed
Cause I ain't got no pencil.
