For years our English Department has continuously considered how to best help our students become life-long readers. And because of this drive, we've built up a strong reading culture at our school. However, much of this was diminished as teaching practices had to be changed due to Covid-19 and social distancing practices. We did the best we could to encourage our students to read, but it was far from perfect. And so, we want to get our students back into a culture of reading! In addition to many plans that we have to rebuild our school's reading culture, we will resume monthly book clubs to help encourage students to read high-interest books alongside their teachers. We have held these book clubs in the past with great success, going even as far as having different authors visit our students (such as Dan Wells), or Skype in to answer student questions (such as Blake Crouch). Our students love that they get to read an interesting book and share their thoughts with like-minded peers and we are excited to bring our literacy book clubs back!
