My classroom is filled with a diversity of students who deserve to be able to read about their culture. These books will help my students find a connection to reading that they may have never had before. My classroom library currently is made up of books that I have received over the last two years of teaching. During our quiet reading time, my students find themselves not able to relate to the books that they are reading. I want to change that, so all my students feel represented in their reading. Having a diverse library helps students feel connected to their learning and hold more respect for it. When students are more comfortable with reading, they are more likely to do. The benefits of reading are amazing and I would like to continue those benefits in my classroom.
