Weird I know, Yoga instructor wanting books! The intention for the book request is to enhance my Yoga program and create a cross-curricular activity for ELA. I believe, it is not enough to teach postures, breathwork, and mindfulness as I am also an English teacher, and believe Yoga can also be academic and life skill worthy. The Alchemist, by Paul Coelho, is a wonderful supplement to the practice of Yoga, as it portrays the dreams and journey of a young shepherd boy. In essence, the same journey many of my students will embark on in the next several years as they depart high school, in search of their own journey, and fulfill their own dreams, with the steadfastness we witness with Santiago... The donations to this project will not only benefit my students academically but more importantly, the book will be used to encourage my students to dream their greatest dream! My goal is simple, it is to help my students achieve their best selves physically, mentally, and emotionally. I teach Yoga because it gives me an opportunity to teach children how to control the chaos in their mind and body. The literature is to encourage them that the worst times don't last forever and to be grateful for both the good and bad as life's lessons are a result of choices made. Like Santiago, my hope is that they will learn to listen to their heart, recognize opportunities, and follow their dreams.
