Extreme Home Makeover - Library Edition
Funded Aug 12, 2021This fall did not unfold at all how I expected, and so I greatly appreciate the grace you extended me to wait until I returned from medical leave and got the K-8 classes back to running normally before sharing this update with you. That said, I am thrilled to finally give you an insider's look as to how your generous donation to our school library has positively impacted student learning and community!
From the first day of school, K-8 students were so excited to have multiple options for seating as well as the cozier atmosphere created with new lighting! The yellow round cushions are huge hits with the younger students, and everybody in grades K-8 love the gray reclining "floor chairs". Students quickly started taking initiative so use the cushions, bean bag, and floor chairs to create their own spaces to read and work during their library classes. Eliminating excess folding tables and utilizing the plastic lap tray tables has opened up many possibilities for students to collaborate comfortably with their peers around the library.
This spring the students in the 678 cluster are using about half of their monthly library/media class time to work on Genius Hour projects. Genius Hour projects provide opportunities for students to authentically incorporate many library standards within a project they feel passionate about. Having the floor chairs, cozy lighting, and lap tray tables support each student in finding a method and space for working within the library that feels personally conducive to their individual learning needs.
Thank you again for your support of the Odyssey Library makeover!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Chambers
