As a first year teacher I’m building my classroom library from scratch and the first thing I want to make sure to include were books that represent myself as well as the demographics in my classroom. With these new books, my students will be able to have a variety of books that represent them as well as their community in our classroom for read alouds or for them to read independently. As an educator of color I the importance of feeling welcomed and represented in an environment that you are expected to grow in and I want my students to feel welcomed and accepted.
