In the past, I have not had a good way to display our seasonal or themed books, and so they have just been placed around the room in various spots. This has led to a somewhat cluttered feeling in the classroom. Having ADD, it bothers me to feel like the classroom is cluttered, and I always try to keep this in mind, as I am expecting 6-year-olds (many of whom also have sensory and attention issues) to be able to function at their best in my classroom. It might sound silly to some, but I think that being able to keep the displayed books in one area will help my classroom to be a little more organized and a little less visually overstimulating. Brain science has taught us that children learn best when they are in a calm state, and I work very hard to provide a safe, calm space for my students to learn and live in. I also believe that more of the children will take advantage of the chance to read these books, and possibly be inspired by them, if they are all in one place that is within reach of all of them.
