My classroom library will be starting from ground zero next year. Many of the students who enter my classroom next year are struggling readers. In order to support their fluency and comprehension skills, I want to build a classroom library full of a variety of books for independent reading, as well as to reinforce a skill or concept. In addition to supporting specific reading techniques, picture books are also excellent tools to create positive discussions about important life skills and character traits. Picture books open a world of teaching opportunities.
