  • Beginning of Year Essentials

    Funded Aug 4, 2022

Thank you for funding my project! We really appreciate your generosity. Every classroom needs basic essentials and I know students will thrive and learn when they have these needs fulfilled in the classroom. I am excited to start the year doing some art and identity projects and I know students will appreciate these materials as well.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ingrid

Thank you so much for funding this beginning-of-year project. Thanks to your generosity, my students will have a range of supplies that encourage creative exploration and support social emotional growth. I can't wait to engage my students in using these materials. This project will make a huge difference in my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ingrid

  • Starting the Year with Diverse Texts and Creative Expression

    Funded Jul 10, 2021

Thank you so much for funding culturally sustaining texts for my students, as well as art materials. I'm so excited to engage my students in rich conversations about literature that foster their love for reading. I know students will enjoy and appreciate having a range of materials to work with on their self/identity projects.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ingrid

I want my students to see the identities, realities and experiences of themselves, their families, and their communities reflected in texts that we read in the classroom. I've carefully selected books that I hope will affirm student identities while also importantly fostering their love for reading. I also want to expose students to a variety of forms of writing so they can explore using different styles in their own creative writing. Books such as "The Poet X" and "They Call me Güero" use poetry, and "Feathered Serpent, Dark Heart of Sky" explores traditional Mexican myths. I am also requesting paint since I plan to start the year with an identity unit in which students will create self/identity portraits.
