The 2020-2021 school year has been the most challenging school year for our students, teachers and families. The majority have been remote learning from the comfort of their own homes for the last 15 months. Starting next school year, all students will be in person learning again. Some are experiencing traumatic issues at home and are more than ever in need of a safe, comfortable space that promotes both academic and social emotional skills I am requesting a dining table and chairs, cushions, bungee chair, balance ball chairs and stools. I have always felt that a classroom should be a place where students feel like they belong, their second home. Our students will be spending seven hours a day in our care. My main focus going into next school year is social emotional learning (Mental Health) supported by purposeful seating. I have created this Donors Choose to help fund the furniture and materials needed to make this second home possible for my students. The furniture and materials I have chosen are all geared towards a Flexible Seating model. Flexible seating allows students to choose where they would like to sit, which seating will allow them to learn at their best for the lesson, work collaboratively, communicate, and engage in critical thinking. It also creates a welcoming space where students feel safe to take risks, ask for help and build confidence!
