  • Teenage Mutant Art Historians

    Funded Oct 3, 2024

I am so grateful for your help! Because of your generosity, I will soon be able to supplement my art curriculum with quality art historical content from Scholastic Art. My high school students and I thank you humbly. I can't wait to share photos with you once we receive and start using our Scholastic art subscription.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Abaya

  • Art Smart Teenage Historians

    Funded Aug 15, 2023

Thank you for your generous donation. We received a subscription to Scholastic Art Magazine. The articles serve as excellent introductions to different artistic styles, perspectives and artists for my high school students. We particularly enjoyed a recent issue on the theme of color and it's historical origins, which I tied in with my annual color theory lesson. Another issue had an article about Old Master's sketchbook development, which I used to reinforce the importance for my students to keep sketchbooks in class. I can't wait to see what other issues we receive this year, thanks to your donation.”

  • Masterpiece Central

    Funded Aug 25, 2023

Thank you once again for your generous donation of art supplies for my high school artists. Since August, my art students have been developing their observational drawing skills. They have been using a combination of the charcoal pencils, markers and drawing paper you graciously helped us to purchase. They have learned different ways to render an image in large scale and shade their drawings to create 3D depth. In the next few days, we will be exploring techniques to create value with pastel color pencils. I'm so grateful that we can explore these techniques with the materials you helped us fund.”

  • Do You Copy?

    Funded Aug 15, 2023

Thank you once again for your donation of a printer for our graphic design classroom. Since August, my design students have been busy learning different image editing techniques on Adobe Photoshop. Recently, they designed a digital color wheel (see the attached photos) and are currently at work on a set of pop art self portraits. It builds a lot of confidence and pride when I print and exhibit my students' works both inside the classroom and in different areas around the school. The printer has also helped me print a lot of signs to serve as reminders around the classroom. I use it almost daily, and I'm very grateful to you for having helped to fund this project.”

  • Pencil Me In

    Funded Apr 16, 2023

Thank you for your help in allowing me to purchase high quality color pencils for my art classes this year. We've been focusing on developing fundamental line drawing and shading skills in the art room over the past few weeks. My students have thoroughly enjoyed overlapping their lines, blending and smudging such smooth, highly pigmented pencils. It definitely beats the Crayola quality pencils they're accustomed to using. Moving forward, we will be using our new pencils to work on still life cross contour drawings using objects from observation.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Abaya

  • Picture Perfect Paintings

    Funded Mar 2, 2023

Over the past few weeks, we have been busy repurposing old, discarded hard cover books to create into altered books. Students have been using the acrylic gesso you helped us purchase by priming their book pages into thick, sturdy panels to support acrylic and collage media. In the upcoming weeks, they will be developing four distinct mixed media paintings within the pages of their altered book. Each two page spread will illustrate the student's chosen theme and demonstrate evidence of diverse techniques from different art historical periods.

Thank you once again for your generosity and support of our recent fundraising project.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Abaya

  • Digital Literacy for Art Education

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

Your donation of Lenovo tablets to use in the art room enabled us to integrate interactive digital learning into our project based curriculum. We regularly use the tablets when we play games such as Kahoots in preparation for quizzes and for our midterm and final exams. The tablets are also useful when we participate in online discussions on our school LMS, Canvas. I regularly check out tablets to those students who don't own personal laptops or tablets. In this way, underprivileged students are able to participate in real time along side their classmates as we contribute to online discussions and forums. In future, we will be using the tablets to participate in online museum tours to enrich our education in the fine arts.”

  • Paper, Paint, Get Set... Go!

    Funded Dec 12, 2022

Your generosity enabled us to purchase high quality watercolor paper to support acrylic painting here in the art room. I cut down the paper to size so that each of my 200 students would paint a self portrait using acrylic paint. The layers of paint are visibly smoother on the watercolor paper than on the cheaper, student grade paper we inherited from previous school years. Moving forward, we will continue using the watercolor paper as we experiment with wet media including India ink, watercolors and monoprinting. Your donation made all the difference to us.”

  • Leap Into Art History

    Funded Nov 30, 2021

Thank you for your generous donation. With your donation, I was able to order a subscription to a premier student art publication. What is great about this publication is that it offers my students new perspectives on the role of art in contemporary life, with its features on living as well as historical artists. This publication is also great for introducing my students to art historical vocabulary. Learning the vocabulary through the engaging articles helps to augment the ways that my students can write about and discuss art. This is all thanks to you and your help in supplying my students with this wonderful literature.”

  • Can You Hear Me Now? Good!

    Funded Nov 30, 2021

Thank you for the generous donation you made to our digital design classroom. Your donation was used toward the purchase of twenty sets of headphones. My students are using these headphones to focus as they watch video tutorials to teach them Adobe design skills. They complete projects on Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign by watching the video tutorials I create for them, pausing them, and practicing the skills for themselves. Because several students could not afford headphones, they previously had no choice but to read the captions in the videos. Now they are able to learn using the visuals, captions and the narrated audio as their guide.”

These paints will be used in the classroom with multiple classes of 38-40 high school students. The paints will be used on recycled and repurposed supplies, such as cardboard packaging, and foam boards for my high school students to create 2D and 3D artistic masterpieces. With these paints, my students will learn how to mix different color values, achieve a range of visual texture effects, and learn to work in the realistic and non objective artistic tradition. At the moment, most of my students are limited to using basic drawing media, so the paints will definitely help to broaden their artistic horizons as they learn to work with acrylic media.
