My goal is to make my classroom library a safe space where students feel comfortable picking a book that best fits them. I want my students to pick books that make them excited about reading, but I also want to make sure the students are picking books that best fit them. I have posters hung up in the classroom library that encourages readers, but another poster that encourages the students to pick a book that is perfect for them. They go through a checklist to make sure the book they are picking is just right. These books are at different levels, but they will help my different readers. All students are different, that's what makes them so special. I tried to pick a variety of books that would appeal to all of the readers in my class. I want each student to be able to find a book that makes them want to spend their free time with their nose in a book. I encourage students to allow reading to take them on a new adventure. In order for books to be adventurous, they need to be something that interests them. I want my students to feel like they are apart of the book; they can imagine themselves as a character, imagine themselves as the narrator, or even imagine themselves as one of the characters in the book. If I want my students to do this, they need to be able to find the perfect book.
