The books that I am requesting are to help students be able to see themselves in the stories. Every student need a mirror and a window to look through as they are reading. My students are mostly minority students and are bombarded with windows to see how others live. Now, I want to give them the opportunity to see themselves in a book (a mirror). I want them to read a book and be able to imagine that story happening to them. When students are able to make a personal connection with a text, they are more likely to keep reading.
