Hello! I teach kindergarten and teach a very diverse group of students at W. Elementary, a Title I school. Approximately 40% of our students are refugees from the Thailand and African areas. The students at my school come from over 19 different countries, and for some students, this will be their first year in an American school. Our school is a very unique, and diverse school with some of the most eager learners. These kids amaze me every day despite adversity. When given the tools to succeed, they always rise to the occasion. I am gathering items for the classroom for flexible seating including pillows as students like to grab a pillow and their reading material, find a cozy spot and work on their reading skills and helps provide an engaging environment that will allow for continued growth. I will use the cooler to keep in my room for those students who can't afford to bring in a water each day so the cooler will keep water cold for those who need their own water throughout the day. The laminating machine will be used to laminate some paper books for students who don't have books at home and I will laminate the book for them to ensure it will last longer. We also will use the laminator to laminate our literacy center activities as those are used a week at a time and many hands touch the activity and we want them to be durable and last.
