  • Moving Up

    Funded Aug 3, 2024

Thank you so much for helping me with this project! Moving up to a new school and age group inspired me to make sure I have a fun and welcoming environment to welcome kids back to school. With your help that will be possible. I can’t wait to get my room ready for this school year. Thank you!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Means

  • Morning Choice Makes a Difference

    Funded Aug 2, 2023

Thank you so much for your contribution towards this project. Students use these materials when they first arrive to school in the mornings and during times of inclement weather when we have to stay indoors for recess. I love the fact that students are offered an activity that doesn't involve screens. These supplies get them interacting with one another and prompt their creativity.

I hope to add even more options in the future that include more opportunities for students to work cooperatively and create together.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Means

  • Making Reading Magic Again

    Funded Aug 3, 2022

Your donations made it possible to put a copy of the first Harry Potter book in each of my students hands as we read this novel as a class. This made the book so much more engaging and we were able to complete a wider variety of extension activities with the novel since each student had a book to refer to.

I also had many students who did not like to read start the second book of the series and truly fall in love with it. I love this novel study because it appeals to so many students. They get the opportunity to dive into a world where anything is possible and be totally immersed in it.

Thank you so much for your generosity and your continued support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Means

  • Flex Your Mind

    Funded Nov 30, 2021

What excitement the kids have had over these wobble stools! Each week, students get to choose their form of flexible seating and this is definitely their favorite option. These stools and flexible seating options give students ownership over their learning environment and the opportunity to decide where they can learn best. We are so grateful for this flexible seating option! Now knowing how successful my students have been and how much they've enjoyed these stools, I hope to broaden my flexible seating options in the future.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Means

  • Amplify Our A.M.

    Funded Jun 18, 2021

Your donations to this project have been a game changer for our mornings at school. Each morning, I hear students eager to get in to our classroom to get to the station with the materials they want to use that morning. I even had another teacher on my team stop me in the hall one day to tell me how much she admired our morning routine with morning choice and that her class keeps asking when they are going to have morning choice.

We conduct morning choice in our class as follows. Each morning when students get to our classroom, they can choose what resource they would like to work with. With your donations, I was able to create the following stations: puzzles, art, building with marble run and brain flakes, brain teasers, partner games, and hopefully more to come! Depending on when they arrive, they have about 15-20 minutes each morning with at the station of their choice. I have seen so much collaboration, communication, kindness, teamwork, and even less tardiness since implementing this routine as morning choice.

Initially, I was afraid that this would be a hard routine to implement. I was afraid that students would fight over materials, be way too loud, and that it would not work the way I intended it to. The exact opposite happened and I have never been more thrilled. Students are actively engaged with each other each morning, they work together, and they genuinely enjoy this time of our day. We are so grateful to everyone who donated and made this a possibility in our classroom! Thank you!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Means

The past couple of years in education have been unpredictable and uncertain. Looking forward, I want students to get excited about coming back to school which can be done with your help. I want to create a morning routine where students are encouraged to choose how they would like to spend their time. Not only will they be able to take ownership of the activity they choose, but they will have an unstructured time of day to explore their own interests. "Morning Choice" is a section of time in the morning when students arrive at school. The goal for this time is for students to make a decision about how they would like to use their time, commit their attention to a specific task, and, most importantly, develop teamwork and communication skills. Students will have the opportunity to work together on various tasks and learning the skills necessary to work as a team is vital. Morning Choice has been shown to not only increase students engagement daily but improve student attendance as well.
