My students were so excited to have bouncy bands and choice seating options when they came to school. Most of them had seen the bouncy bands on social media sites like tiktok and instagram and explained that they wanted to have something like that. Seeing my usually hyper students calmly focus on an assignment, and complete it correctly with very little redirection was one of the most rewarding experiences I have had as a teacher. I got to see my students have an outlet for all of their energy which helped them be more successful in my class, and even other classes as well. My students are preparing to complete the FSA writing text in 3 weeks, and the final district test of the year in 2 weeks. The choice seating options have given all of my students the ability to choose various success routes, and grow in their learning. One student explained that, "the fact that we get to choose where we sit sometimes makes it feel like you really trust us and want us to enjoy language arts. I love coming to your classroom when I am stressed out, because I have so many ways to calm down in here." Giving my students the opportunity to have new learning tools, and new learning experiences is what makes everything worth it. My students are learning and growing every day with the help of your donations.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Ivy-Teeling

Students in 6th and 7th grade are learning how to manage their time and energy while in class. They are transitioning from the early stages of learning development, into the heavier topics and skills. All while they are also navigating changing bodies, energy levels, and emotions. The choice seating options I selected will be used to ensure they have an outlet for their energy and their emotions in order to give them more time and practice with skills they are learning.
Allowing kids a chance to express energy makes a classroom feel more like a home, and builds an environment that lets kids learn academic skills, social emotional skills, and time management skills! Student learning gaps can be filled with the assistance of choice seating, to ensure that my students are leaving with more subject knowledge and social emotional knowledge than they arrived with, every day! The ability to express energy without leaving the classroom will also give them a way to eliminate stress, anger, and other emotions which could lead to conflict. My goal is to provide quality instruction and practice time to my students while also ensuring that they are not being distracted by their need to move!
With the assistance of choice seating, I can help remove some of the barriers students face when it comes to learning difficult materials in middle school English Language Arts. Students come to school with all kinds of barriers from their personal lives and academic history, especially in inner city schools. Removing the barrier of needing to move around to express their energy can help create a room where success is guaranteed and students leave smarter than they arrived, every day of the year!
