Building Future Mathematicians!
Funded Sep 1, 2021Thank you so much for your donation to my math class. I have been able to purchase a variety of hands on and digital activities for all my classes, but especially for my math workshop class which is for students who are significantly behind in math. They appreciate when we get to do something besides a regular worksheet. Since including many of these exciting activities into my classes, I have noticed more engagement, more enjoyment, and more math being done by my students!
One of the activities students are especially enjoying are the digital "escape room" puzzles where they have to solve math problems to get clues about a mystery. I love the flexibility with these, as I can assign them in class for students to work on independently, with groups, or at home when I have students who are absent and my students are always engaged. You know it's a hit when they ask when they get to do another one. I was able to purchase a package of about 10 different ones that I can use to review many different concepts throughout the year and for many years to come.
I have really been enjoying having a wide variety of new, fun and different activities to incorporate into my lessons. My students like solving the math mazes I was able to purchase, where you solve a math problem and then follow the path with that answer to get from the start to finish (you can see a sample of students doing these in the photos I shared). I like that it makes students think and ask great questions if they don't see their answer or if the maze takes them back to a problem they have already solved. I have also bought a set of math activities where you solve a problem and then based on your answer, make a silly face. For example, if your answer is less than 5, you draw a baseball cap on the face and if it is greater than 5, you draw a top hat. My students enjoyed drawing silly pirate faces while reviewing working with fractions. Fractions is a topic many students struggle with, so it's been nice having several activities to help them review. Thank you so much for making all this possible.”
With gratitude,
