A very essential part of social studies is being able to comprehend the features of maps. Developing map skills is very helpful to navigating the world as my scholars change it! I incorporate personal finance into the economics unit of the course. We set up an imaginary bank, each scholar gets their own accounts, and they receive "scholar dollars" for different rewardable actions in the class. I provide them with opportunities to shop at the "market" to buy snacks, supplies, and materials. With this transaction, I have them learn how to read invoices and receipts for them to keep up with their records when tax time comes.
