Notebooks, pencils, highlighters, deodorant, toothbrushes. These are just a few of the things I am asked for on a regular basis, typically due to a lack of access at home. Fidget toys, alternative seating options, and inspirational room decor are less of a necessity but hold a high value of their own. By creating a comfortable and inspirational environment, my students are more likely to walk in and openly ask me for what they need. Whether that is a safe place to talk about problems at home or assistance obtaining personal hygiene products, I want them to feel comfortable when they walk through my door and I want to be able to provide what they came to me for.
