A language classroom is not just another room, but a doorway to a larger world and I want my classroom to reflect that. I came into an existing program where most of the resources were old and out dated. I've tried making a few things here and there, but to actually buy what is needed is something that I cannot afford. Students learn in different ways, not everyone is going to succeed listening to a lecture and going through flashcards. I want to give all my students an opportunity to succeed in my classroom. To get the students more familiar with writing with new characters and using new grammar I need white board supplies so we can practice writing daily. Flashcards are a common item in the classroom, but seeing and touching things helps some connect the word to the object, so I want to have plenty of tactile things that I can't normally just bring into the classroom. It can be used not only to introduce the vocabulary, but later on when students start discussing things in more detail. I have very few things on the walls with Japanese on them. I need charts, and posters, and other such things you see in Elementary classrooms to make sure the students are exposed to the language they are learning. Many of these items are not readily available for Japanese specifically so I have to get what I can and alter them as needed. But being able to get them is the first step.
