  • Equip Us w/Color Guard Equipment for our New Enrichment Class!

    Funded Feb 18, 2024

We are so excited to create our very first color guard enrichment class to promote school pride, performing arts, collaboration, social emotional learning, and more! This class could not have happened without your support! Students were very excited to get their hands on our new flags and to see how they work! The flag colors represent our school colors, so they have given our students a sense of pride to wave our school colors for everyone to see!

We appreciate your generosity as these color guard flags can be used for years to come and are an asset at our school. The Hawai'i Department of Education continues to provide our students with new opportunities to rise up in school pride! Mahalo!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Asato

  • Inspiring Students to Build Connections Through Coding and AgTech

    Funded Nov 18, 2023

A HUGE MAHALO to the Hawai'i State Department of Education for providing funding for our 3 Windows computers! These computers link up perfectly to run our Smart Farms and our Artec Robotic kits! Students are now learning how to use code blocking programs and are ready for the next level which is coding our Smart Farms and our Artec Robots! You have inspired our next generation to possibly work in a field with computer science or computer science paired with agriculture and sustainability!

These experiences could only have been made possible with your funding. I appreciate how much you care for our students! Mahalo!”

  • Tools to Foster a Social Emotional and Academic Learning Community

    Funded Mar 4, 2023

A huge mahalo to the Hawaiʻi Department of Education for supporting our students! Our students have been using all of the supplies and equipment that was purchased from the printer to ink cartridges to the mini projector! There are last minute assignments that we need printed right away so the printer and ink have been very useful! Plus, the mini projector helps us to learn in different settings!

Supplies have also been coming in handy! We use the painters tape to mark the floor, put up our posters, and showcase our projects! The post-its are constantly used in class for students to share their learning with others and to write feedback to encourage their peers. Permanent markers and construction paper have been a great way for students to express themselves through art. The students love the mindfulness cards with prompts for students to share how they feel or think with each other. The journals have been helpful for all subjects, especially for our SEL classes where students are feeling more comfortable expressing themselves through writing.

Thank you again for supporting our keiki at Kahaluʻu Elementary! We appreciate all that you do!”

  • Overcoming COVID with Health and Wellness and Engineering and Design!

    Funded Oct 31, 2022

A HUGE MAHALO to the Hawai'i Department of Education (HIDOE) for supporting your students and teachers! We appreciate you!!! COVID had a huge impact on our students these past few years and we are so thankful for your supplies that helped our students to reconnect, collaborate, and gain a sense of confidence in themselves and within each other. Through the wa'a (canoe) challenge, we discovered students encouraging each other, coming to an agreement on their design, having empathy for one another, and rising up to the design challenge, while learning about their Hawaiian culture. As for the mirrors, they helped to solidify how each person mattered. Students were able to take pride in who they are, how they look, and how they appear to others. The mirrors went hand-in-hand in our SEL lessons, as well as our dancing and fitness activities! Plus, the mirrors were portable and very functional! Thank you HIDOE for all that you do! Our students are thriving because of you! MAHALO!!!”

  • Solar Hydroponics and Aquaponics Engineering and Design DIY Fun!

    Funded Oct 20, 2022

Thank you so much for the wonderful experiences that you created for our students to become engineers and solve their very own hydroponics and aquaponics design! It was a great learning extension from our local garden/ aquaponics field trip and became a memorable engineering design unit for all! Students used the submersible pumps and mini solar panels to create mini hydroponics systems! Furthermore, students propagated different plants such as vanilla vines, mint, succulents, pohinahina, and kalo, which they took home as plant starters for their home garden! It was exciting to see each student rise up to the challenge, problem solve, and take learning into their own hands! A huge MAHALO for your support! You truly made a difference in our students' lives! Mahalo!”

  • Fun and Feeling Fit for Years to Come!

    Funded Sep 6, 2022

A HUGE MAHALO TO YOU!!! Our grade level enjoys playing PE and EVERYONE is now able to PLAY and practice their skills at the SAME TIME through your donation of dodgeballs, volleyballs, and sports ball pumps! Students all look forward to PE now, especially since they do not have to wait in line for a while for their turn. We have a large field that can accommodate all students as well so it is perfect for using our new grade level equipment that you provided. MAHALO!!!

We emphasize health and wellness through physical fitness. The dodgeballs and volleyballs allow us to create different activities that include all students. They are durable and soft for safety and fun! Through our lessons, students learn hand-eye coordination, problems solving, and gross motor skills.

COVID isolated many students which diminished their social skills, so we not only emphasize physical health but also social and emotional health through fitness. What is most impactful are students re-learning how to socialize and work with varying skill-leveled peers through our PE activities using the equipment you donated. They are discovering how to empathize and be compassionate toward others who need more support. We, as teachers, can let go of the the reigns and let the students learn from each other. They are now rising up as compassion leaders. Thank you SO MUCH for being a part of this and helping our students all have a chance to be emotionally and physically fit. Your donation of dodgeballs, volleyballs, and sports ball pumps is greatly appreciated! Mahalo to you and your heart for our students!!! WE APPRECIATE YOU!!! MAHALO!!!”

  • Read to Succeed!

    Funded Aug 9, 2022

Thank you so much for funding our class with Scholastic News magazines! Our students are now excited to read and await their new monthly magazine filled with various articles and topics that are current and relatable. Our students are now able to mark up the passages to better comprehend what they are reading and hone in on key details. They seem more interested in reading as they are physically able to flip through the magazine pages.

They can now even cut out and chunk the information needed in the magazine. Students are also able to digitally view the article if they prefer reading the articles online. Plus, it helps me to teach them with interactive videos and ready-made grade level prepared questions and worksheets.

Thank you so much for helping our students excel in reading! Informational texts are something they struggle with, so these magazines are a perfect to boost up their comprehension and vocabulary, while making reading enjoyable. A HUGE MAHALO TO YOU and ALL THAT YOU DO!!!”

    With gratitude,

  • Comfort and Function with Small Group Rotation Cushions and Markers!

    Funded Aug 6, 2022

A HUGE MAHALO to YOU!!! Our students were so happy to sit in comfort! They love using our floor tables, so they really enjoyed sitting on the cushions while they work in small groups. PLUS, we were able to clean them, so that was an extra bonus! Thank you so much for the white board pens as well! They came in handy whenever students practiced skills with their white boards! We often use them! Mahalo for your heartfelt kindness! The students appreciated your generosity! We discussed how you thought of them and their future.”

  • Needed Items for Students toThrive in the Pandemic

    Funded Mar 6, 2022

A HUGE MAHALO to the Hawai'i Department of Education and their generosity to their teachers and our keiki here at Kahalu'u Elementary School! We have already used all the items that you have provided our students! The microphone stands, mics, speaker set have made a difference! Students voices are now being heard! It was so hard for students to share their thoughts with the class due to wearing a mask. Now, they are able to share their thoughts for ALL to hear! I believe they have gained more confidence in speaking in front of an audience with the microphones. They look forward to sharing time! Also, we used them for our speech festival and the video recording. It was very difficult to hear individuals within each group, but the microphones were perfect for everyone to be heard! :)

The bins have been useful for all their items to be kept in one place, the zipped bags have helped to separate individualized manipulatives and learning tools, and the highlighters helped them to hone in on different parts of their writing and reading. The children sized masks fit perfectly. The magnets have helped them to learn about north and south poles as well as forces. I am so thankful for your support! MAHALO!”

  • Excited to be Able to Read!

    Funded Oct 21, 2021

Thank you so much for helping me to support my students and engage them with reading! With the COVID pandemic, it has been difficult for my students to share books from our classroom library, so your donation of Scholastic readers and sight word booklets are perfect! Now each child can have his or her own colorful reader and sight word booklet to bump them up in reading! Plus, they can take them home to read aloud and share their learning with their family.

The colorful and interactive pages excite students to read. Plus, we receive a new Scholastic News topic each month, so our students can't wait to receive and read the next issue! The Scholastic Science readers also attract students to read more about fun non-fiction topics!

This year, our students struggle with reading and comprehending informational texts. With your support, they are already making gains and we are so proud of them! Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness! :D We appreciate you! ; D”

An iPad will be a game-changer to instruction. An iPad will help capture, stimulate, and share memorable moments students have on the go. We love to do hands-on, outdoor engineer design projects such as composting, gardens, aquaponics, and erosion projects. Documenting and sharing these moments with students' families using an iPad will involve them in their child's education. Instruction can be delivered moving around the classroom with an iPad connected wirelessly to the TV. This teaching can enhance student learning, either face-to-face, distance learning, or blended learning. Super excited to be freed from a stationary digital device! Mahalo!
