My project is to create an up-to-date library full of stories centered around African American boys and girls. My school is predominately black and 100% full and reduced lunch. However, the books provided by the school have little representation for my students. I want to provide these books - both new and classic - for my students so they can see themselves when they read. I feel if they see themselves reflected back at them it will help them discover new words they never knew existed and find a love for reading that will carry on in their lives well past their short time in 4th grade.
