Reading Is Having a Movie in Your Head
Funded Dec 13, 2022Thank you so much for the books you donated to my class. I teach resource classes for third and fourth graders. These are students that qualify for special education. They each read on a different level, but all enjoy a great story. Since each student has a different reading need it is important to have a variety of reading levels and genres in my classroom. Your donation helped fill this need.
In one of my classes I do most of the reading to the students. In another I am listening and guiding students reading as well as reading to them. Since I follow the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills), there are certain skills and genres I have to cover each year. We may be covering poetry, drama or historical non-fiction. I try to make a connection between the student and the passage we are covering. I try to bring real world experiences into the classroom to make the passages mean something to the students.
A favorite of the students is the Amulet series. It has almost been a competition between the fourth grade boys to see who can finish them first!”

Funded May 25, 2021Thank you so much for giving my students new technology for their classroom. I am sure they will be so excited to see tiny creatures come to life. Thank you for your generosity. I can't wait to explain to them where the microscopes came from, they will be amazed.”
