Prior to Covid, my students were able to transition to gym, art, music, dance and lunch. But now due to rigid safety restrictions, they are stuck in the classroom. Now, they have a ton of built up energy, and that tends to cause them to go into crisis and interrupts them from learning. A typical breakdown or meltdown consists of screaming, crying, knocking things down and sometimes hitting others. Materials like the bouncy ball and sensory cushion will be such a tremendous help in my classroom. During my lessons I implement movement breaks where students have the opportunity to get up and move. Students will be able to use the bouncy ball as a way to release all of their built up energy and have a little fun at the same time.
