The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students will be used to help students feel a sense of safety and learn coping strategies to help when their worlds seem to be out of control. When students' basic needs are not being met, I'd like to provide a safe spot where students can relax and have time to talk, relax, and reenergize. Research shows that sensory play builds nerve connections in the brain's pathways, which lead to the child's ability to complete more complex learning tasks. Sensory play supports language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem solving skills, and social interaction. The toys and the AeroGarden that I am requesting would be used as tools for students to take a break and practice building valuable skills. I'm advocating for my students because they deserve to have someone on their side who supports them and understand that life can be hard but school is a place where we support them no matter the challenges. With the teachers pay teachers gift cards, I will be able to find creative lessons that are appropriate for students that support their social and emotional needs. I also would be able to find classroom decorations that will help create that peaceful and calm atmosphere. My goal is for students to learn different coping skills and self regulation skills to help them be successful in school. With all the materials requested they will be exposed to a variety of materials and a variety of sensory stimulation that is created to help students take a break and focus in school.
