Ready, Set, Read!
Funded May 7, 2013Thank you for your generous donation to our classroom project Ready, Set Read! With your help my students have a new place to receive small group, focused instruction in reading. Reading is such an important skill and being able to be in close proximity to my students while teaching is invaluable.
My students were so happy to see the shiny new table and chairs just their size. It's a table where they choose to sit, not only for teacher time instruction but also anytime they want a quiet corner to read and complete their work.
My students are big fans of Kevin Henkes and the characters in his stories. The read aloud books and CD's are so much fun and encourage the love of a good story. Children are able to gain some independence while working and listening to a good book too.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Collins
This classroom project was brought to life by People's United Community Foundation and 9 other donors.Let's Put the Kid Back in Kindergarten!
Funded Jan 19, 2012I can not begin to express my gratitude for you generous donations. Through your generosity my students have been provided the opportunity to engage in some very imaginative play. Play is disappearing from our early childhood classrooms but I am determined to help my children learn and grow through their playful interactions with each other.
The materials your donations have provided have given these and future students new materials in which to foster their imaginations. Each day they can be seen dressed up in dramatic play clothing, cooking pretend meals, taking care of their "babies" and playing school!
Thank you for putting the play back into my classroom!”

A Book in the Hands of a Child
Funded May 20, 2011I cannot begin to tell you how much your generous donations mean to my students. With your help, our classroom library is not only a more organized space , but a more comfortable and inviting spot to curl up with a friend and a good book.
I have noticed that the children are choosing the library area during free choice time because it's more colorful and warm, with comfy places to sit and read, play learning games, listen to a good story or just chat with a friend.
It's also much easier for me to find the books I need to enhance my lessons, or read aloud one of my favorites books just for the sake of hearing a good story!
I love that my students love to read, I know they will be become better readers because of your generosity. You have truly made a difference in the lives of young children.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Collins
Everyone in Their Place!
Funded Jan 28, 2011I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank all of you for your thoughtfulness in donating to my DonorsChoose project. With your help my classroom is not only a brighter place for learning, it's a more productive one too.
Each child has his or her own spot to sit during our very important circle times. This is where a lot of our learning takes place. We conduct morning meeting there, where we set the tone for the day and most of our whole group math instruction and literacy instruction takes place here too.
The kids are able to spread out on a nice clean and bright surface for math games, to just sit quietly with a reading buddy, or play with blocks during choice time.
I can't thank you enough for your generosity!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Collins
