STEM Challenges
Funded Oct 30, 2023Thank you for the amazing STEM kits. We engage in weekly STEM projects and these kits were a fun and engaging addition to our classroom.
The students had to navigate directions and collaborate with their classmates. In addition, that had to think critically about the concept of cause and effect.
Our first time using them, the students explored the components and how they connected as well as understanding step-by-step instructions. The second time we used the kits, the student's spent more time working through the directions to build each component and testing out the cause and effect of the mechanisms. A fabulous kit.”

Funded Sep 20, 2023Thank you for the gift of stationary and technology supplies. Every student in my class now has access to a mouse to easily navigate all programs and assignments on their computers.
Also, thank you for the large pack of color whiteboard markers. We regularly complete math word problems on giant whiteboard's. The different colors allow the students to clearly show their thinking and draw out the problem using models, diagrams, and equations.
Finally, the colored 2-pocket folders and large hooks help the students keep their personal items organized. Ongoing projects are stored in the folders and backpacks are neatly hung around the room on the Command hooks.”

Funded Feb 11, 2022Thank you for the amazing art supplies. The students are so excited every time I plan an art project for class. They love the vibrant watercolor paints, the beautiful art paper, the oil pastels, and the sharpies for outlining and defining their designs. We have used the watercolors over crayons in our landform art, the watercolors and oil pastels in our haunted house art, and the water colors in our Georgia O'Keefe inspired flower art. The quality water color paper makes all the difference to the end product and the students are so proud to take their artwork home. I excited to continue the art program with my students this year.”

Funded Nov 11, 2021My students absolutely love the new cozy floor space. During literature groups, the students grab the floor cushions and find a spot on the rug to read. They are also using it for partner work, and a gathering space when they need a moment of personal time.
When I first set up the space, it was a surprise. The students entered the classroom one morning and the excitement and cheers of delight came from all. Some comments included, " Wow! Can we sit there now?" and "I love the new rug." Students are also asking when we will be adding more flexible sitting to our room. We discussed being respectful and responsible when using the new area and already they are reminding each other to respect this new space.
The new soft area allows for collaboration and relaxation. Even though my students are in fifth grade, they love laying on the floor to work. Both the students and myself are very thankful for this wonderful addition to our classroom.”

Reflecting Diversity in Literature
Funded Sep 21, 2021The students have really enjoyed having such a wide variety of diverse books in the classroom. The books have been accessed during independent reading time and literature groups. As a whole class, we just finished reading Wonder, by R.J. Palacio. The students were highly engaged in the story and loved connecting with the main character, August Pullman's (Auggie's), fifth grade experiences. Each day they summarized the previous chapters before we moved on and discussed the feelings and personal experiences that they connected with in the story. When we finished, they were already asking what book we would be reading next. Thank you for providing these great literature opportunities for my students.”

Funded Aug 31, 2021Thank you for all the wonderful resources that were donated to my classroom. The clipboards, dry erase pockets, dry erase markers and dry erase erasers are used everyday in class. The students love using the clipboards when meeting on the rug or as a solid surface for writing when outside. The dry erase pockets and supplies are used daily in math to practice our multiplication and division algorithms. After a piece of graph paper is slipped in the folder, the students are able to organize their work and feel comfortable in trying to solve problems as it is easy to erase. The sticky notes have been used to create a reading chart in our classroom. Students use different colored sticky notes to record all the books they have read. It is a rainbow display of our love of reading.”
