I was moved to one of the smallest rooms in the building so my space is limited but needs to feel different and special without being overcrowded. I saw last year how my space limited the comfort of my students and therefore affected how easily they opened up. Believe it or not the environment therapy and counseling are conducted in matters and make a difference. I am hoping to be able to convert my room into a safe, welcoming, relaxing, and comforting space for my students.
I am in need of a sofa or comfortable seating for the students with the goal to help them feel safe, relaxed, and comfortable during therapy. The couch and chair are the most essential pieces that will be needed for my room as it is where students will sit and talk to me.
I am in need of social-emotional and mindfulness books, games, and activities. Books and activities on bullying, friends, emotions, and families are very effective in conversations with my smaller students. Being that I do not have space for a bookshelf with tons of books, an iPad would be ideal. This iPad will be for students to use once in a while in session with me to read a book, play a game, complete an activity and spark conversation. The iPad can also come in handy to show the students therapy videos as well as help me complete assessments and eliminate the need to print papers and upload them later.
My room carpet will be replaced in December, and I have purchased decorations, lamps, and a mirror. I also was able to remove the big filing cabinet and replace my activity table with a smaller table as well as replace my work desk with a much smaller one.
