Vibrating Color Compositions inspired by Op-Art and Pop-Art
Funded Dec 2, 2022The materials your generosity helped to provide enable my students to enjoy the rich hands-on process of painting which included color-mixing, trying a variety of application techniques, and experimenting with visual composition. Students were eager to engage in the projects when they saw the abundance of brightly colored paint and brushes that would get to use.
This project enabled students to work freely with materials that many of them have little access to outside of school, it empowered them to explore subjects using color as an expressive lens through which to consider mood, pop-cultural references and the effects of compositional choice.
Students got a lot of use of these materials and because they practiced taking only what they needed and were thoughtful and responsible with the resources, we have a good deal of paint left over which will enable next year's students to benefit and enjoy these processes and learning experiences as well.”

Funded Mar 16, 2023Thank you for your generous donation and your interest in helping to provide young people opportunities to create and express themselves. Your donation will go a long way to ensuring students feel free to experiment and learn in abundance instead if scarcity. This project teaches about reflection, impression, and transference. Students will gain skills in printmaking and watercolor composition.”

Expressive Printmaking & Colorful Collaging
Funded Aug 1, 2022Thank you for helping to providing these resources. They will go a long way in growing student confidence and encouraging self expression. Printmaking and collage are techniques that require a lot of material resources and because of you my students will be able to engage in these processes with freedom and gusto.”

Printmaking & Pottery for Ms. Duzenli's Young Artists
Funded Mar 10, 2022My students used the wonderful resources you provided us to create beautiful, unique, and creative works of ceramic art. Some of the works were small and precious, other large and ambitious; each project was student-driven, and because of your generous donation, students were empowered to use as much clay as they needed to suit their vision. One of the most ambitious works this year was an 18-inch tall hand-built modern vase with traditional decoration. This student worked for weeks and built a strong and tall form, saw it through many stages or refinement, and decorated with delicacy and care. This was the first time the student had worked in clay, and without such an ample supply of clay this work may never have been created. Thank you for making this possible! This student really excelled because of the freedom they felt with resources.
The moment the students saw the clay, still in boxes, their eyes lit up with sheer delight. They asked when we would be using the clay, and if everyone would get a chance. I was thrilled to tell them that it would be happening soon and that "YES! Everybody would get to work with clay" I felt like I was initiating my students into a very special part of humanity, sharing all kinds of knowledge and ancient secrets with them about clay, inviting them to share in this awesome artistic tradition.
The students had a lot of fun, getting to make a mess, creating pieces not only to be seen and looked at but also to be held and used. They learned about the physical properties of clay, they learned about the rich traditions of pottery that span the globe. My students created practical, visually impressive, and creative ceramic artworks and learned to practice great patience and care in their work, to respect the limits and potential of the raw material of clay, and practiced taking as much care in cleaning up as they did in delighting in their mess.
The skills my students practiced throughout pottery-making will serve them throughout life: patience, flexibility, attention to detail, careful construction, tidying-up. The students I work with in the future will also benefit from the fantastic precedent set by this experience, as I plan to teach with clay every year, as much as possible. We appreciate the opportunity you helped create for us!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Duzenli
