My students work hard to learn new skills! They learn best when they have hands on opportunities to apply new skills. Cooking is both a life skill as well as a potential job skill. We have a convection oven, microwave, blender, and electric skillet to use in the classroom. The only thing we are missing is a refrigerator to store cooking items. I am requesting a refrigerator. The students have learned to make stir fry with different vegetables, apple butter, meat loaf, soups, subs, pizza, cookies, and many more items. However, we have to store items in the refrigerator in other areas of the school which make set up and preparation for cooking activities more time consuming as students are traveling around the school to gather our materials. Having a refrigerator in the classroom would make the cooking activities easier to plan and implement. Cooking activities incorporate reading and math skills along with the life skills. Students having to travel around the school to gather our cooking items from refrigerators in other rooms increase our time off task and often result in distractions from the activity. Having a refrigerator in the classroom will result in increased learning with our life skills!
