Thank you so much for funding this project. My students will get a chance to enjoy having headphones for listening & reading. They will also have a chance to explore different seating options when they are in centers. I am super excited about this school year. Thank you again for your help.”

  • Extra, Extra, Read All About It

    Funded Jun 28, 2022

Wow! I am super excited about this project. Thank you so much for contributing. Your contribution will help so many scholars. My students will get a chance to explore so many different topics through Scholastic News. This will help expand their vocabulary and become better readers. The headphones will allow them to block out what’s going on around them and become more focus on what they are listening to.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Shell

  • Traveling the World Through Books

    Funded Aug 17, 2021

This school year has been a challenging year, because so many of my scholars were at least one or more grade levels behind. Traveling the world through books has really opened up the doors for many of my students to explore and discover a newfound love for reading.

At the beginning of each school year we do a STAR assessment to help determine how to group our students in small reading groups. I had several students that scored very low. I began working with these students and used the resources I received through Donors Choose to help. We used a check out system with the books and with parental support, my scholars reading levels were moving.

As we close out this school year I have several students that are receiving awards for bookworm, highest reading average, most improved, and maintaining an A or B in Reading all four terms. I am overly excited to share this great news.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Shell

The first thing that my students tell me is that they can’t read. I would like to provide them with quality books that start at their level and progressively move them to the next level. These leveled readers will give my students the opportunity to participate in a guided reading lesson, with their own copy of the book. This is will them a chance to look at a leveled text on their level and discuss it. By doing guided reading, I not only meet the students where they are but it allows me to take them further with reading.
