  • Math in Our World

    Funded Aug 24, 2022

My students enjoyed all the materials we received thanks to your donations and as expected the STEAM Park from LEGOS was a great hit!

Not only were students constantly asking when we would finally open the "big box of LEGOS", but they were actually curious and excited about building and learning from this LEGO set.

My students did a lot of team building without me having to create the groups, and if they saw a piece that belonged to another group, they would go and give it to them without needing any encouragement. They also cheered every time a group was finished with their part and would come over to observe how it all worked. (This made me VERY happy and it will be a very special memory!)”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Zaragoza

  • Making counting fun!

    Funded May 14, 2022

My students LOVED all the new counting collections that our classroom received through this project. I am very glad that I was able to find variety of collections that really captivated my students' attention from the moment I opened the box. I had students get into groups of 4 but could sit close by another group of 4. I did this so that that each group could share a collection and attempt counting the whole collection, but in case that they got stuck they could talk to a neighboring group. I wanted them to enjoy counting to numbers higher than they might know with the help of the classmates in their group as well as learn different strategies as they try to find the total in their collection. In this way, students are captivated by what they are counting and not complaining that math is boring or that they are feeling anxious about doing math.”

  • Books for Bilingual Students

    Funded Sep 23, 2021

My students were able to get into pods of 4-6 students and had some time looking at the assortment of books that we received through this project. They then picked a book, chose a partner, and read their and their partner's book. When they finished both books, they could choose a different book and find another partner to read their book with. I allotted them 30 minutes for this activity and this was my way of giving them some reading time. I did it this way so that students learn to read from each other either by listening to someone else read or they are the ones reading to their partner. Students enjoyed reading books with their friends instead of just listening to me read or have them practice their reading with me.”

    With gratitude,

Young learners are always very curious about their world and I want to provide age appropriate texts that they will enjoy reading while learning and hopefully satisfy some of their curiosities. This project will allow my students to expand their reading capabilities and learn new vocabulary in both English and Spanish as they choose from a variety of non-fiction and fiction books in both languages. These books will diversify my library as it will be more culturally relevant to my students. My students will also learn about different ethnic groups, important people in US history and different scientific topics.
