  • Shelf Love: Support Our Classroom Library Initiative

    Funded Oct 9, 2024

On behalf of myself and my students and staff at the District 20 Pre-K Center, I want to express our sincere gratitude for your generous donation of bookshelves!

The excitement on the children's faces when they first saw the shelves filled with books was truly wonderful. It was like Christmas morning! The shelves have become a beloved gathering spot in our room, bringing the school community and children together.

We are using the new shelves in many ways especially since we finally received books for our new shelves! The shelves are so great in bringing the school community and children together. While the space does not allow more than a few children, bringing the children to the books in small groups has also helped the students focus on one book at a time.

For example, we recently completed a project where each student chose a favorite animal and researched it using library books. They then created presentations using the information they found. The shelves provided a quiet and inspiring space for them to conduct their research and delve into the fascinating world of animals.

Your donors got a little peek into our classroom by contributing to your project, and we know that they'd love to learn more. We are trying to get more bookshelves for more books in the future.

Thank you again for your incredible support. Your generosity has made a significant difference in the lives of our students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Katy

  • Future Scientists in Pre-K!

    Funded Dec 6, 2022

Forget about the children's reactions when all the packages came! I cried happy tears seeing all the items being delivered! As a school we are so thankful and appreciative. Teachers spend so much of their own time and money on the students to help fill the gap on access. Thank you for being such a big part in helping our community! The children loved all the new materials and are all enjoying them in different ways! Hopefully we can bring in books to pair with the materials soon! Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Katy

  • More Books Please!

    Funded Feb 8, 2011

We have just started to use our books these past two weeks! The leveled books from Scholastic we received from your generous donation is helping our students who are currently reading level A books according to our Fountas and Pinell reading assessments. We have started character study with the Curious George books! Students have started to call Curious George just "George" since they think it's silly to call someone "curious." "We're curious too, and no one calls us that in front of our names," the students claim. We are also sharing our books with other classes, helping our students realize the importance of sharing valuable possessions.

Even though we are a special ed. class of English language learners, our students are progressing so much with your help and generosity. With your donation, it makes us feel that truly, "the whole village" is there with us in helping our children grow.

Thank you again so much for helping us take a stand for our kids!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Katy

  • Moving To Literacy!

    Funded Jan 11, 2011

We are extremely thankful for all the materials we have received from your donations. Using the blank recordable audio cards the teachers in the classroom have recorded words to help students with listening to pronunciation and enunciation of words. We have used the set of I Went Walking , for our listening center. The students love the book! In our group word study, we use the magnetic letters to "make and break" words, helping students with beginning phonics. The Listen and Learn Letter Sounds Activity pack has help our students still learning letter sounds with making phoneme distinctions in words.

As a first year teacher in a new school lacking materials, these gifts help our students step up in confidence in reading and writing. Language acquisition is not easy, and with your donations, students can only move upward!

Thank you again, from all of us in our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Katy
