  • Teaching With a Vampire Rabbit As Your Hook

    Funded Sep 2, 2024

Thank you for your generous donation. This project has given our students the opportunity of having books in their hands so they can see the printed words while not having to decode each word and then try to remember the information in context.

This project is helping students not only learn responsibility for things in their possession but also life long learning habits of listening to learn. They are able to have first hand experience that learning can be fun.

Thank you for giving us the resources to have this experience. For some of our students this is the first time they have had this opportunity.”

  • Teacher Read Aloud and Student Read Along

    Funded Aug 5, 2024

Thank you for giving our students the opportunity to have had copies of the book we are reading in class. They are able to read along and make connections they would not have the opportunity to experience without your generous donation.

Our class is having the experience of being able to read in collaboration with one another while having discussions. They are learning life long skills to help them become part of a learning community. They will take these skills with them the rest of their lives.

Our class is using this read aloud to make connections with each other and the larger community but having deeper thinking discussions about real world situations. The students are able to considerate on the content of what is being read instead of figuring out each word. They are able to listen to learn. Thank you.”

  • Mat Tape for Safe Wrestling

    Funded Jan 12, 2024

Thank you for your donations that made this possible. This has eased a significant item from our budget. The donations provided the funding for mat tape so our students could stay safe while learning wrestling.

In our program students learn Craftsmanship - Always do your personal best.

Respect - Honor yourself, others and things.

E - Share care and concern for all things

S - Self-Discipline - Control your body, mind and especially

    your mouth.

T - Trustworthiness - Behave in a way that is honest and

    fair.

This is done through teaching the sport of wrestling. But we must also be safe so we need mat tape to create a safe place for the physcial part of wrestling. Our staff are volunteers who already give a lot but with your donation, together we can give much more.

Thank you for making another season possible for our young and impressionable future leaders.”

  • Nonfiction and Diverse Books

    Funded Aug 7, 2023

Thank you for your generous donation. Almost all of the families in our school do not have the financial option of getting books and other literacy materials for their children. There are not many resources near their homes for free access to materials they could have access to and they do not have the ability to attain transportation to other places that might provide these opportunities for their children.

The resources attained through your donation will allow our students to have resources in their hands that they can use to increase their learning and thus be able to increase their opportunity to become life long learners. The items in this project will also help our students understand more about the world around them and expose them to ideas they will not have experience without these resources.

Thank you for giving our students these resources and opportunities.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Zapp

  • Math Centers for Hands-On Learners

    Funded Aug 2, 2023

Thanks to your generous donation our students now have access to resources that will assess them in learning through play without the use of technology. This is an opportunity they would not have without your assistance. We are very grateful.

99% of our students come from homes that are below the poverty level. They do not have access to opportunities that other children in our school distrect have at their fingertips. Our students want to learn as much or more than most other students.

The items from this project not only fit perfectly with the curriculum of our district but provide an additional way for our students to practice their learning and become more proficent while being a self directed activity. This allows our students to take responsibility for thier own learning. This puts them on the path to be life-long learners and a positive contributing member to society and the community they live.

    Thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Zapp

This classroom project was brought to life by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and one other donor.
  • Books At Our Reading Levels

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

Your donation has provided an opportunity for our students in higher grades that are our lowest readers to not only have books at their level without feeling like they are reading "baby books". These books are providing the bridge they need to get to where they need to go. We use these books to teach reading strategies that our students need to read at a higher level and comprehend what they are reading.

Our students have their own collection of books that they can use during our DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) as well as during independent work time. These new books allow our students to learn to love reading and learning.

We have student who are so excited to read and share about the adventures they are experiencing through reading. The Henry and Mudge series is particularly popular.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Zapp

This classroom project was brought to life by Seed to Read and 2 other donors.
  • Hands on Activities to Close the Reading Gap

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

Our students are enjoying the activities that your donations have allowed us to attain. They are able to make connections with their reading by using manipulatives to help them make the lessons stick in their mind. They are better able to attend to the lesson being taught by using the manipulatives to be actively engaged and take responsibility for their own learning.

If you could have seen the reactions of the students as I opened the boxes in our classroom you would have thought they were receiving everything on their wish list for Christmas or their Birthday.

We are using these items to make our reading time an active time to use their hands as well as their eyes to connect with the concepts of reading. They are able to develop strategies to learn new concepts.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Zapp

The items on this project will be used to guide students in finding acceptable ways of helping themselves work through frustration. The students learn to identify their frustration (If you can name it, you can tame it) then they are able to use these sensory items to work out their frustration in acceptable ways and not be a disruption. Some examples would be * a student learns when I start to feel my hands make fists I know I am getting angry. I am not supposed to throw things or hit someone but I can go get the playdough and squeeze it until I feel back in control. *a student realizes I am feeling frustrated and anxious and I know I am not supposed to run out of the room but I don't feel safe. I can go get the "smelly slime and and use it quietly at my desk until I feel better. The students are taught expectations: * everyone has feelings and they are not bad - we must control how we react to those feelings. *we can use activities that make use of our senses to take control of our feelings. These students are in my class because they are unable to function safely in the general education classroom. The idea of this classroom is to guide them in being able to recognize their frustration and to find ways to help themselves be safe as well as to socialize appropriately. These students need resources and guidance as to how to realize they are frustrated and find socially acceptable ways of dealing with those
