In biology we study concepts that are hard to visualize. We focus on the micro part of biology; cells, organelles, bacteria, cells dividing, which are hard for students to visualize. Students are more engaged when they can see what we are learning about. The current microscopes that students have access to are outdated, scratched and difficult to use. Providing a digital microscope for my students allows me the ability to show them what we are learning about and display it on a larger screen for the entire class to see. They will be able to take turns learning how to use the microscope, how to magnify the objects and focus in and can share their learning for the entire class. A digital microscope allows me to provide similar experiences for students that we provided in a pre-COVID world. In a state where we are encouraged not to share materials and equipment a digital microscope will allow me to show students the amazing things that only a microscope can do.
