As the students learn about biology, there is a big section we cover titled Ecology. Students from different cultures eat different foods. By having a greenhouse, the students will work together to not only learn firsthand how everything grows, and how what we do affects how plants grow. They will also be able to cross-breed the plants to find out what hybrid can be produced. They will be responsible for planting, watering, and taking care of the plants as they grow so there will be a bountiful harvest. The vegetables planted will include potatoes, green beans, zucchini squash, tomatoes, radishes, different types of squash and a variety of others. This will give the students a chance to try food they may have never eaten before. The students will learn how easy it is to have a garden and grow their own food. This project will not benefit just the high school. Any teacher and their students will be more than welcome to participate in helping maintain the greenhouse. All produce grown can be taken home so that students can have fresh food to eat. In addition, it is a great way to show how valuable urban farming can be. It's not just about learning how to grow fruits and vegetables and care for them properly so that they will provide what is needed, it's about learning how people from different cultures can come together for the same purpose.
