Students will be in person! These students will be given the opportunity to read through a story that is usually told through a textbook. It is important for students to create their own historical understanding through multiple perspectives. I am requesting a class set of Chains: Seeds of America. My goal for the students with this text is to foster connection with the characters on a personal level, and in turn a growth in empathy not only for those characters, but the people whom they share the Earth with. Every story is made of connections between the reader and the characters. I believe that those connections will spill into the culture of the classroom as well, creating an atmosphere of empathy and mutual respect for fellow human beings.
