Hands-on centers are a great way for pre-kindergarten students to learn teamwork, self-regulation, how to make good choices, time management, social skills, and self-awareness. Additionally, centers help teachers provide individualized instruction to students based on their learning needs. In class, center tables, chairs, and center bins would allow me to arrange my students into high-interest centers that students could participate in throughout the school day. I have noticed that my students are much more engaged and have greater success with academic achievement goals after we have done center work. Students are happy and enjoy doing centers because they feel like they have “jobs” to do. Also, they can choose which center they do during independent work time. Students love getting to choose and this gives them time to truly engage in what they enjoy most. The items that I have selected for my project will allow me to set up more hands-on centers in my classroom and give me storage space to put all of the engaging materials for each center.
