  • Ready to Return! Supplies for 3rd Grade Classroom

    Funded May 5, 2021

Thank you so much for the Ready to Return! Supplies for 3rd Grade Classroom donations. Our students have been using the supplies frequently during the first trimester of school. As school supplies can be late to delivery at the beginning of the new school year, it was important for my classroom to have their supplies ready by the first day of school, which is what your donation enabled my students to do.

My students have used the whiteboard supplies daily for warm-ups, as well as community building games and activities to create a positive environment in the classroom. They used up the pencils quickly in the first 6 weeks! They have been practicing their handwriting daily to make up for the virtual school year of 2020, and it has improved significantly. Their favorite supplies have been the watercolor palettes and paper. They love to paint, and we have painted a few times this year already. They are experts at handling the watercolor supplies, and love to help each other try new painting strategies with water. Their genius and creativity shows with their art. It is fun and enriching for the whole class.

Your donations have enabled my students to make lasting memories in their first trimester of school. Thank you again!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Catherine

  • Tech Savvy 3rd Grade

    Funded Aug 30, 2021

We did it! Thank you so much for your support. I can't wait to give you and update on how things go. They will do so much better on their laptops with these supplies. Station work and independent work will go so much better.

I couldn't have done it without you all!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Catherine

Giving my students access to these supplies will give them the basics they need for success in the classroom. For fluency practice in both math and writing, (a staple in 3rd grade curriculum) students would benefit by using whiteboards to flash answers. When taking notes, creating anchor charts, and practicing math and writing skills, students will be using pencils, as well as colored pencils, to classify and organize their thoughts. Students need supplies to learn, but they also need organization to be able to treat these donated supplies with care. Our students do not have desks in our class, but small tables with no easy place to store supplies. When provided with these storage supplies, my students will have easier access to materials, but it will also help teach them how to be tidy, a needed review in the post-pandemic classroom. I find it critical that students have access to art supplies in my classroom, which the watercolor paints and paper will offer. The students in my class have creativity and artistic potential flowing out of them daily. They regularly show me the drawings and movies they create at home. If students are able to connect science, math, social studies, and literacy to the arts, it will encourage a love for learning that can last them their entire lives. And finally, I have requested two Teacher Pay Teachers gift cards so I can purchase supplemental curriculum that will boost my students' chances for success. This would include materials for Social Emotional learning, educational posters, word walls, as well as additional math and writing practice to ensure student engagement and success.
