The problem we are facing is students who struggle with math and are struggling with socializing with their peers. The solution? Using tabletop/board games to work on both of these areas of weakness. Math and board games are very similar - you are given some rules to learn and some strategies to practice and then given a final goal (winning the game/solving the problem). The overlap is huge between the two areas and I would like to take advantage of this by using board games to allow students to practice their math while gaining experience following rules, developing and testing strategies, and working as a group towards a common goal. Board games help my kids learn, and having access to more varied and newer games will only help them more. I already have a small classroom library of games that I've purchased myself or gotten donated and I would like to expand this library going forward. Doing so will continue to allow me to address NV Standard 1.12.3: "Apply properties and theories of the real number system to everyday situations." It will also give students the opportunity to relearn how to interact with each other in a low pressure, high engagement setting.
