I teach middle school ESL and work specifically with non-English proficient speakers and newcomers, refugees, asylum seekers, and others new to the United States. This project idea began when I co-taught in 8th-grade math earlier this year. I observed 8th-grade students access pre-recorded lessons at their own pace. They were able to pause, rewind, restart the lesson video as often as needed. Although the 2020-21 academic year has had some challenges, I get pulled from my regular schedule to help cover homeroom teachers. When this happens, I miss meeting with my students. I realized I could produce the same types of recorded lessons for students to access when they don't have my class for the day. Furthermore, I can offer additional practice reviewing concepts from the beginning of the year. Finally, some of the older ESL students, who are self-conscious of being pulled from class, would be able to practice their English skills in class while their peers are doing work. The Explain Everything app is one of several useful apps to students but is not available on the desktop computer. Ideally, I would like to have an iPad and stylus to make this idea possible. Thank you for considering my project for your donation.
