Have you ever experienced that moment when you are reading a book and you are transported to a different place in your mind. New people, strange experiences, and endless exploration. Providing books that students can relate to or learn from creates opportunities for there to be a deeper understanding of the world around us. From books that focus on being unique to having different abilities, students will have these resources at their fingertips. A good book can help you understand what it’s like for people who don’t share your race, religion, sexual orientation, or socio-economic status. Diverse books teach empathy. My goal is to help students understand and embrace who they are and the abilities they have. I want them to understand their history and to use that information to be the most successful they can be.
