Slant boards are an essential resource for any classroom. When a child is having problems with handwriting, one thing to look at is positioning and how it is affecting the child's handwriting. Often if a child is slouching this affects the shoulder and arm positioning which will affect their handwriting. A slant board can help with positioning and posture. There is an article that describes research that shows work done on a sloped surface of 20-23 degrees with appropriate elbow positioning will position the eyes into an optimal distance from the working surface. Slant boards not only help improve handwriting, they play an important role in the learning process as well. Having a slant board can allow students to take their learning anywhere. They can use them while they work on the floor with partners, when they are moving to a variety of stations, when they go outside to observe science lessons, and so much more.
